Headaches, Backaches & Menstrual Cramps…It’s All Related (Pt. I)

Sep 27

Did you know that your spinal cord acts as the major superhighway of your body’s nervous system, exiting your brain, traveling down through your spinal column and branching off into spinal nerves at various points of your spine? After this long journey the spinal nerves then exit between individual vertebrae and travel on to various parts of your body to regulate your organs.

What’s so important about this fun fact is that your nervous system controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body.

Understanding this then helps us see how your spine, especially your lower back, when out of whack, can impair the nerves that direct and monitor the systems controlling your bodily functions.

Take a quick look at the chart and you’ll see for yourself how the lower part of the spine, which is called the lumbar region, controls the feminine reproductive organs and the lower neck, a part of the cervical spine, controls hormonal balance.

The Lumbar Spine, a.k.a. your “lower back,” consists of five large vertebrae. The nerves that exit this part of the spine are responsible for important body functions. This area holds the largest and strongest vertebrae of your entire spine and has some of the largest muscles supporting it.

Low back pain? Sciatic nerve pain? Muscle weakness? Constipation? Cramps? Menstrual Troubles? Infertility? Or do you find yourself suffering from frequent neck pain, lower back pain or headaches? Know that it’s all connected. Subluxations affecting this area can have negative results on a number of bodily functions. It may sound daunting, but this is actually good news. I’ll tell you why in a minute…

What’s A ‘Subluxation?’
Vertebral subluxation is a condition in which one’s spine is misaligned therefore interfering with the nervous system and compromises one’s health. Chiropractors help correct vertebral subluxations so that the pain is reduced and the blockages are released thereby resolving your pain and discomfort. However, know that if the original stress is not removed (i.e. whatever caused the subluxation in the first place) the problem is sure to return.

Women who develop vertebral subluxations that go undetected suffer from a wide variety of female health problems including PMS, pelvic pain, incontinence, sexual dysfunction and even infertility. But the good news (I told you there would be some) is that once the subluxations are adjusted and corrected, the body, in its infinite intelligence can function properly once again and subsequently heal itself.

Is Your Back Out Of Whack?
When a woman’s reproductive system is disrupted by misalignment of the bones that make up her spine, several symptoms can occur:

1) Heavy bleeding or severe cramping
2) Missed periods or infertility
3) Cells that normally line the uterus, travel and implant themselves elsewhere in the body (i.e. endometriosis) causing bleeding, pain and reduced fertility
